The Pictorial History of the CIAA Professionals 1950 - 1984 is an important piece of African American sports history. Today, sports is more inclusive and is a big business. We owe a debt of gratitude to those players, who were the early pathfinders to today's many professional opportunities. We should learn about and honor their accomplishments.

Thank you A.B. Whitfield!

A.B. Whitfield 's book should be a 'must read' for all young athletes who want to broaden their knowledge in sports from a historical view. The sports conferences in this book are not mainstreamed; consequently are excluded in the conversations of general college sports. The accomplishments of these conferences are getting further displaced in time. This book needs to be in the libraries of every college that has a sports program.

Pictorial History of the CIAA Professionals 1950-1984 is a book filled with fascinating stories of amazing black athletes that hailed from the oldest African-American college conference in the United States. I felt very proud and inspired by each biography I read. The photograph of the players in action, convey a real sense of action, drama and suspense. The athletes look like superheroes on the court or field! That image is complimented by the smooth, dignified, pictures of these men in clean, crisp suits. Speaking as a black man, sports lover and fashion photographer; I wholeheartedly recommend this book to adult and children.

This book is of no other compared to its' purpose. This book is not a report on stats nor a write-up on selected athletes. This book is vast in its publicity of black athletes from all intercollegiate sports. The author of this book is a former NFL player, Superbowl bounded, All-American, and the principal to Trey Whitfield School. His name is A.B Whitfield. This pictorial is attractive due to the number of athletes listed. Being the first pictorial book to be written entirely on CIAA(Colored Intercollegiate Athletic Association) players in such intensity is an accomplishment and was needed. This book is an aspiration towards the athletes (1950-1984) of their hard work and their contribution to their teams. This book includes over 400 pages of rare and unpublished photos and old news articles. This book is organized by a listing of 100 athletes or more through their choice of University. It has the CIAA Hall of Fame Enshrinees (1977-1984) and has mentioned players who are rising to this status in this day. This book is not just a memory lane for A.B but holds memories for other families. This book is meant for all to see.

A.B.
